What is Beyblade: Metal Fusion?
Beyblade: Metal Fusion is the English title of Metal Fight Beyblade, the anime that launched the Metal Saga. In Japan it aired on TV Tokyo from April 2009 to March 2010. The English dub, produced with Nelvana, premiered on YTV in Canada in May 2010 and on Cartoon Network in the United States in June 2010. In its original TV run, the season counts 51 episodes.
The series traded the bit-beasts and engine gears of the original Beyblade for a new generation of tops built around a metal Fusion Wheel. That design shift, and the faster, harder-hitting battles that came with it, is why Metal Fusion is still the entry point many fans recommend for the whole Metal Saga.
The story: Gingka against the Dark Nebula
The season opens with "Pegasus Has Landed!": Gingka Hagane, a wandering Blader from Koma Village, arrives in the city with his Bey, Storm Pegasus. He quickly crosses paths with Kenta Yumiya and with the Face Hunters, a gang led by the proud Kyoya Tategami and his Rock Leone.
Behind the street battles stands the Dark Nebula, a powerful organization run by Doji and his Dark Wolf. The Dark Nebula wants to control the world of Beyblade and revive the forbidden Lightning L-Drago, wielded by the cold and terrifying Ryuga. Gingka's fight against them is also personal, since it is tied to the fate of his father, Ryo.
Key arcs of the season
- The street battles: Gingka faces the Face Hunters, wins Kenta's trust and earns the respect of Benkei and his Dark Bull.
- The Dark Nebula's castle: the heroes infiltrate the enemy stronghold, where L-Drago finally awakens.
- Koma Village and the past: Gingka returns home, reconnects with his childhood friend Hyoma and learns more about his father.
- The qualifiers: survival battles, tag-team matches and challenge matches decide who earns a place in the Battle Bladers tournament.
- Battle Bladers: the season builds toward this great tournament, where the strongest Bladers meet and the conflict with the Dark Nebula comes to a head.
